CPA Approach
Targeting Mathematics uses the CPA approach to mathematics teaching and learning. The use of a multi-representational approach involving concrete, pictorial and abstract representations enables pupils to make connections towards acquiring mathematical concepts.
Concrete representations
allow young learners to relate mathematical concepts to their real-life experiences
and to understand mathematical concepts with appropriate hands-
on experiences. By relating mathematics to familiar experiences and by making use of manipulatives, pupils
can grasp mathematical concepts faster and easier, and apply them more confidently.
